Letter to the Editor - Death of Richard Moss

Messrs. Editors - The following generous and feeling act by Com. RODGERS, on board the frigate President, has just come to my knowledge and I think it deserves a conspicuous place in your next paper, Yours, &c. A Friend to Humanity:

RICHARD MOSS, Quarter-Master, died on board the frigate President, October 16th. A few hours before his death, he informed Com. RODGERS that he had a wife and three children in Boston, dependent on him for support; and expressed considerable anxiety for them, knowing he had but little time to live. Soon after his death, at the suggestion of Com. RODGERS, a subscription paper was opened, (which he headed) and was handed through the ship to the officers and crew for subscription, when upwards of Seven Hundred Dollars were immediately subscribed by the generous and feeling officers and tars, for the relief of poor Moss's widow and children.
