In Washington City, on December 30, the venerable JOHN SMILIE, aged about 74 years. He was a native of Ireland, but arriving in his country at an early age, was engaged in the war of the revolution, both in civil and military capacities. Since that period he has never been out of public service. He has been uniformly distinguished as a firm and undeviating supporter of republican government, and of his country's rights.
