We are having a good school; taught by Prof. Tom.TIMMONS. It takes the trustees nearly all their time hauling wood for the school; but this is all the honor the trustees get and it is supposed to be sufficient.
Mr. Editor I want to ask you some questions: There is a law against fraud-getting money under false pretenses. Why is it in buying a pair of shoes stamped on the shoe and box "warranted solid leather," that they are nearly all paper and come to pieces when I get them wet? Is not that getting my money under a false pretense-pretending the shoe was leather to get my money? Why is the thief not hunted down and prosecuted as I would be if I sold a bale of cotton with a hundred pounds of seed in it?
I bought some chairs and the bottoms were nothing but paper pasted on to a small wire and glazed just like cane. If I could glaze my oats and sell it for wheat I would be prosecuted, and justly too, for it would be fraud.
Are we living under the same government; or have we two sets of laws — one for the farmer and one for the manufacturer? The constitution says it will protect me but it does not do it.
Mr. Editor I hope you will tell me where I am off my base. I don't see how they make a distinction without a difference.
Mt. Pleasant Bull DoG.
We will turn the "Mt. Pleasant Bull Dog" over to the tender mercy of our correspondents and hope one of them will answer his questions. By all means tell him “where he is off his base”. — ED.
