Ennis Operating Co. Claims Gas Sand on the Farmer Lease
Report Strong Flow of Gas and 10 feet gas sand at Depth of 640
Mr. Gordon, local manager for Dr. H.J. Von Hagen, representing the Ennis Operating Company.
He says that they have made a location just 300 feet from the well now drilling on the Farmer lease and will in the near future erect a small star rig and go after this gas sand.
Once before they drilled a big gas well on that lease at a depth of 125 feet.
The derrick was destroyed by fire out ther on this location. Mr. Gordon says this fire was caused by gas from the hole become ignited. The rig was a total loss and had to be built at a cost of thousands of dollars.
The hole they are now drilling is a deep test contract, and Mr. Gordon says they intend to go on down with this well but have purchased a Star rig from Wichtia Falls.

Local Officers Capture Bootleggers with Big Stock
20 gallons corn whiskey confiscated - two men arrested exciting time
The usual quite of a Saturday afternoon was rudely shattered here last week when City Marshal Dinsmore and Constable Rhodes returned to town about 4:30 in the afternoon with two captured bootleggers and a cargo of 20 gallons of corn whiskey captured a mile north of the city limits.
Two men who gave their name as Allred Brothers and hailed recently from Breckenridge, passed through town in a covered wagon about 3:00 Saturday afternoon, and when they stopped at Moore’s Feed Store to purchase a bale of hay for their team Mr. Moore discovered a rare, though familiar odor coming from their wagon. He informed the officers that he suspicioned that the wagon containing whiskey, and said officers, Dinsmore and Rhodes, immediately get busy. They followed the wagon out of the city limits and then arrested the men and searched the wagon with the results as stated. The men were brought back to town and the confiscated booze was locked in the vault at the First National Bank where a large crowd had gathered.
The men claimed that they had found their cargo of booze on a small creek near Breckenridge and they were evidently bound for the oil fields to the north of us to dispose of said cargo. The United States Marshal at Wichita was telephoned and he advised Messrs. Dinsmore and Rhodes to bring the prisoners and their booze to Archer City where he met them and carried them on to Wichita Falls. They are now in jail at present having waived examining trial and being unable to furnish bond.
The men claimed to be brothers, and one of them said his home was in Oklahoma while the other claimed Post City.
The confiscated booze was in one 10 gallon barrel and the remainder in half-gallon water bottles and fruit jars.
Local officials are to be commended for this capture. It is things like the above that make Texas in reality “bone dry.” There have been a good many arrests in this county in the past year of bootleggers. They will in time learn that they cannot hope to ply their nefarious trade in our country.
