Sherry D. Ator, 67, of South Jacksonville, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born May 5, 1941, in Atlas, the son of Carl and Alice Moony Ator. He married Nancy King on April 23, 1960, in Pittsfield, and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Carl (wife, Chris) Ator of Chapin and Steve (wife, Rita) Ator of Naperville; one daughter, Missy (husband, Dan) DeGroot of Chatham; six grandchildren, Adam and Christopher Ator of Naperville, and Nicholas, Nathan, Megan, and Morgan DeGroot, all of Chatham; and one brother, Carl (wife, Gloria) Ator of Halls, Tenn.
Mr. Ator was an operator for Pactiv more than 30 years. Prior to that, he had owned and operated a barbershop in Winchester for ten years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Jacksonville, and an avid Cardinals fan. He enjoyed being outdoors and yard work, and especially cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Williamson Funeral Home. Family will meet friends following the service. Private interment will be in Diamond Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jacksonville Food Bank. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
