LYNN SPAULDING July 7, 1922-May 30, 2008. Lynn Fairbanks Spaulding, beloved husband of the late Jean Toltzien Spaulding passed away peacefully May 30, 2008, at the age of 85. He is survived by four children, Diane Van Renselaar of Marin County, Calif., Cynthia Rein (Glenn) of Sterling Heights, Mich., Keven Spaulding (Aiping) of Las Vegas, and Alison Burke (Randy) of Las Vegas; and brother-in-law, Paul Toltzein of Madison Wis.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Lynn was born in Taylor, Wis., and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps after his graduation from Mt. Horeb High School. In 1944, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant at Ellington Field, Fort Worth, Texas, where he earned his "wings" with Class 44-E. He was assigned to the 15th Air Force and flew B-24 Liberators out of Cerignola, Italy, with the 459th Bomb Group. During the Cold War, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller in the Far East, Goose Bay, Labrador, Europe and the U.S.A. He graduated from the University of Omaha via Operation Bootstrap. He earned his teaching credential at the University of Nevada Las Vegas after he retired as a major from the U.S. Air Force at Nellis AFB. Lynn worked on joint military/AEC projects at the Nevada Test Site and was employed by Edgerton, Germeschausen and Grier before he began his teaching career with the Clark County School District at William Orr Junior High School. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and TROA, the Retired Officers Association. He enjoyed his years of retirement in Boulder City and Las Vegas playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles. Lynn was also a numismatist, a Mason and an award-winning photographer as well as an accomplished poker player.
