Description: Obituary of Frances Ruperts-English

Date: August 21 1908

Newspaper published in: Ukiah

Mrs. C. H. English, widow of the late Cal English, died at her home in Covelo last Monday at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 18 days. She was born in Illinois and crossed the plans with her husband in 1857. She was a hardy pioneer woman and drove a two horse team most of the way across the plains. Her son, Orren Hall, was then only two years old. They arrived in California and came here and located in this valley. Upon the death of Mr. Hall, the deceased was married to Mr. C. H. English. For many years they lived on the ranch now known as the Arnold Ford ranch. They also owned the Marks ranch at one time. They sold out their interests here in 85 and moved to Round valley, where most of the children now live. Mr. English died several years ago.

Mrs. English was the mother of ten children- Orren and Perry Hall, and Charley, Lizzie, Nellie, Dick, Dan, Wylie, Lou, and Vincent English, all of whom are now living excepting Perry Hall. She was a remarkable woman and had many noble characteristics. Her death is generally regretted, and the sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the entire community. The remains were brought here for interment, the funeral taking place from the M. E. Church, on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.
