WILLIAM EDDIE DIED LAST TUESDAY
Was Old Potter Valley Pioneer
William Eddie passed away at his home in Potter valley last Tuesday after an illness lasting several weeks. The funeral was held Wednesday, interment being in the cemetery at Potter valley.
Mr. Eddie was one of the old pioneers of this county. He was born March 29, 1837, in Missouri, and lived in St. Louis in 1857, when he came to California, settling in Healdsburg. HE worked in the redwoods for a time and finally in 1859 came to Ukiah. Shortly afterwards he bought a squatter's rights to 160 acres in Potter valley from Mr. Graves and became one of the first to engage in farming in this section. Settlers were few at that time and the land was cheap and for the most part uncultivated.
Mr. Eddie was married in Potter valley, Sept. 6, 1868, to Cynthia Vann, who was born in Missouri Sept. 7, 1850.
The following children survive: James and Taylor Eddie, Mrs. Minton Thornton, Mrs. Laura Burgess, Mrs. Della Hughes. Five grandchildren also are left.
