Melbourne C. Sinnott, well known Mina businessman and a resident of Mineral County for more than 50 years, died last Wednesday in Reno where he had been hospitalized for several weeks.
Mr. Sinnott was a native of West Hollywood, Calif., where he was born on January 14, 1889.
He moved to Nevada in 1916, shortly after his marriage to Hilda A. Nitzche. They resided briefly in Goldfield and Tonopah before moving to the old mining camp of Candelaria where he engaged in mining and business. He served as postmaster and justice of the peace in Candelaria and also opened an automobile agency in that town.
In 1927 he moved to Mina, continuing in the automobile business and also for several years, operated a gasoline and oil distributorship, which included the Hawthorne area. In later years he owned and operated a general merchandise store.
Acquiring a large parcel of land in Mina, he developed the Sinnott Addition, which included, in addition to homes, a motel, service station and restaurant.
Active in the Masonic Order, Mr. Sinnott was first a member of Tonopah Lodge No. 28, F&AM and became a charter member and past master of Hawthorne Lodge No. 3, F&AM. He also was a member of Mt. Grant Chapter Order of Easter Star in Hawthorne, Scottish Rite bodies in Reno, Kerak Temple of the Shrine, Walker Lake Shrine Club, Tonopah Chapter Royal Arch Masons, and Knights Templar. He also was a past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Hawthorne, and a member of the moose Lodge in Tonopah.
Surviving Mr. Sinnott is his widow, Mrs. Hilda Sinnott of Mina.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the school gymnasium in Mina by the Masonic Lodge of Hawthorne, and on Monday morning graveside rites were conducted at Masonic Memorial Gardens in Reno where interment took place.
