Easton, Pa., Sept 5. A dispatch received today from Conway, Massachusetts, says that Robert Allen COFFIN died there last evening, aged seventy-seven years. Deceased was the first student registered for admission to Amherst college at its opening in 1821, and was its oldest living graduate. He was also the founder of the Warren Female Seminary of Rhode Island, author of the “History of Conway” and a work on natural philosophy, a contributor to “Bibliotheca Sacra” and a member of the Massachusetts legislature in 1856-’57. He was the brother of the late James H. COFFIN, LL.D., meteorologist of the Smithsonian Institution and professor in Lafayette College.
