JAMES E. “Jack” ROBINSON, 89 of Griggsville, IL, died Saturday morning (9/19/09) at 1:00 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL
Born Jan.18, 1920 on “Irish Ridge”(Harmony Ridge) near Detroit in Pike County, IL, he was a son of William Paul and Anna Esther Harmony Robinson. He was one of eleven children. He married Helen Marie Chaplin June 14, 1944 in Winchester, IL. and she preceded him on Jan. 25,2008.
Jack was a grain and livestock farmer most of his life, farming in his early years for Walter Wilkins in Scott County, later moving and farming near Barry, IL. then west of Pittsfield on the Grigsby farm then near Detroit, IL. He picked apples for Ackles Orchards and could harvest over 110 bushels a day. He enjoyed cutting and splitting wood for himself, selling, and delivering to those who needed it. He enjoyed deer hunting and mushrooming. Jack was raised a Catholic.
Survivors are his 4 children: 2 sons, Tom (wife Debbie) Robinson of Pittsfield, IL., Gary Robinson of Griggsville, IL., 2 daughters, Wanda Kay Robinson of Griggsville and Mrs. Jeanne(Jim) French of Munster, IN, one brother Joe(w- Pat) Robinson of Barry, IL, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
Preceded by 4 brothers, William, Richard, Paul and Harvey Robinson and 5 sisters, Julia Herron, Sally McManus, Kate Crawford, Mary Stinebaker and Rosie Stice.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Bro. Jerry Edison officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery south of Griggsville, IL
Friends may call at Niebur s from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Memorial are to Bethel Cemetery to the Detroit Town Hall.
A lunch after services will be at the Detroit Town Hall
