CARDINAL AT ST. DOMINIC’S.
Administers Confirmation to Large Number of Persons.
Confirmation was administered to 175 persons at St. Dominic’s Church yesterday morning by his eminence Cardinal GIBBONS, at the conclusion of a solemn high mass, sung by the pastor of the church, Rev. James B. HINCH. The Fathers of the Dominican House of Studies at Brookland assisted at the ceremonies, and remained at the church for dinner as the guest of the pastor. Although the majority of those who received the sacrament were children, a surprisingly large number of adults gathered at the altar rail, among whom were a number of converts to the faith.
The sermon was preached by the cardinal, and was a brief discourse on the gospel of the day and an explanation of the meaning of the sacrament of confirmation. He told the children that they had now become members of the church militant, and were expected to bear themselves during life as soldiers who had received their commissions from the Lord. The cardinal remained at St. Dominic’s until late in the afternoon, when he returned to Baltimore.
