Schafer Goes With Police
WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 (AP) – Representative Schafer is preparing for his next onslaught on prohibition by accompanying Washington police on liquor raids and interviewing the prisoners on these forays.
The Wisconsin wet, it was learned today, has been an onlooker at several raids in the last three months and, as he put it himself, has been spending as many Saturday nights as possible at the precinct police stations.
“Surely, I’ve been doing considerable gum shoeing,” he said, “I want to see how prohibition works at first hand, and one of the best ways to do it is to accompany the police when they go out for liquor violators. I’ve been in houses with them; I’ve seen them arrest men and women with liquor; and I’ve frequented these precinct stations to talk with these people after they’ve been put behind the bars.”
