Drowned in a Reservoir – Amel Mortensen Meets Death Near Spring City

Spring City, July 23. A sad accident occurred near here this afternoon between 2 an d3 o’clock, which resulted in the drowning of Amel MORTENSEN, aged 15 years, while he and two younger brothers and one of Hamon HANSEN’s (Hanson?) boys were bathing in the Chester reservoir.

Amel being the oldest, waded out, slipped and fell into the main channel and went under. His little brother says he saw him come to the top three times but could not get out. When they found he did not come up any more, they hurried to town to give the alarm; the distance being about one and a half miles. A rescuing party immediately started out and brought the body home. The sad occurrence has cast a gloom over the entire community.
