ELOPEMENT OF YOUNG COUPLE CAUSE OF WORRY
STOCKTON, Calif., Feb. 12 (AP) – Elopement of an American born Japanese girl and a Filipino youth has brought a new worry to authorities investigating recent race riots here between Filipinos and whites.
The couple, Alice Swiki, 18, and Felixibesto S. Tapia, 23, married against the wishes of the girl’s father and as a result, police say, Filipinos have declared a strict boycott of Japanese merchants and Japanese are preparing to retaliate in kind.
