ARMY MAY BE FURNISHED WITH WOODEN SCABBARDS
Wooden scabbards will very likely be adopted for the army, to be used with the new sabers, the shape of which is still under consideration by the general staff.
Several samples of wooden sabers have been furnished the general staff, and experts are engaged in considering their advantage. They are not much if any lighter than the metal scabbards, but the advantage of being comparatively noiseless when they come in contact with trees, brush, etc. Besides, they offer a protection which will preserve the sharpness of the saber, and it is deemed most important that this quality shall be maintained.
