Washington Times June 4, 1905 Tallest Building Section 1, Page 6

The Highest in the World
The new premises of the head office of the International Banking Corporation, at 60 Wall street, were occupied by the bank on June 1. The building, which has twenty-eight full stories, with unusually high ceilings, is remarkable as being the loftiest business structure in the world, from pavement to roof. The height is no less than 344 feet - that is, two-thirds of the height of the Washington Monument, and fully three times the height to which the local branch of the same bank will be allowed to go by District law, should the directors elect to build in Washington, local banks being restrained to somewhere in the neighborhood of 110 feet according to the street in which they are located.
The new building extends from Wall street through to Pine street, and is in the same block with some of the greatest banks and trust companies in New York city.
The building was about two years in the course of construction, and as the deposits of the bank increased threefold during that time, entailing great and additional labor upon the head office, the bank was very much cramped in its old premises at 1 Wall street.
