STURGIS, N. D., March 1 (AP) – The Black Hills she loved today claimed “Poker Alice” last of the women “characters” of the wild and wooly west.
The grave that waited her in the Catholic cemetery today was not far from those of “Calamity Jane”, “Wild Bill” Hickok, and others of the frontier who talked plain, shot fast and played straight.
With the death Thursday of “Poker Alice,” who was Mrs. Alice Tubbs, there remains in the Black Hills only one survivor of the old west – “Deadwood Dick.”
