J. T. Harahan Charges Former Friends With Treachery in I. C. Graft
---------------------
Special to The Daily Times
Chicago, Jan. 14 – Accusing friends of former days of treachery in connection with the looting of the treasury of the Illinois Central railroad by car repair frauds, James T. Harahan, retiring president of the road, bade farewell to the transportation world last night with a scorching address at a banquet given in his honor.
“It is my deepest regret that anything should have occurred during my administration to warrant criticism of the management of the Illinois Central Railroad company,” Mr. Harahan said. “While betray of any position of honor and responsibility is much to be deplore, the particular feature of the whole matter which caused me pain is the treachery to me of men whom I have trained and educated, some of them 20 years, and whom I have caused to be placed in the positions they occupy.”
