Description: East St. Louis. Henry SHAUB Forced to Marry His Victim.Date: December 22 1886
Newspaper published in: St. Louis, MO
Henry SHAUB, an employe of the Helms Brewing Company, was arrested last evening on a warrant sworn out before 'Squire BUNYAN by Lizzie SCHEER, a young girl 19 years of age, charging him with being the father of her unborn child. The young girls claims that she was seduced by SCHAUB under a promise of marriage. After being locked up SCHAUB, in order, no doubt, to avoid a marriage ceremony, confessed to Chief Halloran that he was the father of another child to which a young girl living in the suburbs had given birth a couple of years ago. When Miss SCHEER was informed of this fact she still insisted on a marriage ceremony, and a license was procured from County Clerk RHEIN and the couple were united this morning by 'Squire SHEA. The girl, although nearly 20 years of age, does not look more than 16, and as she is decidedly good looking much sympathy was felt for her in her misfortune. The girl's father is Mr. August SCHEER, a citizen of the Fourth Ward, and he was so heartbroken when he learned of his daughter's shame that he would most probably have killed her seducer if friends had not persuaded him to alter his determination.
