Washington, April 27 – Senator Frye, of Maine, tendered to Vice-President Sherman his resignation as president pro tem of the senate, giving ill health as his reason. The senator is confined to his apartments and friends because of his advancing years are apprehensive. Probably Senator Galligher will succeed him.

To Abolish Senate Strike From The Hands of the President

Washington, April 27 – Victor Berger, the Milwaukee socialist member of the house today introduced a resolution proposing to abolish the senate strike from the hands of the president the veto power and take from the courts the authority to invalidate legislation enacted by the house. All this is proposed as amended to the constitution. The senate has run its course, said Berger, “It must some day as with the British house of lords, yield to popular demand for its reformation or abolition.”
