Description: Sudden death of Ben Smith
Date: January 4 1902
Newspaper published in: Tucson
Telegraphic information was received by P.B. Warnekros today that Ben F. Smith had killed himself at Pearce last night. No further particulars were had, and whether Smith accidentally shot himself or the deed was committed with suicidal intent is not known. The news was quite a shock to his many friends here. B.F. Smith was one of the pioneers of the county, and well known in the southwest. He owned a ranch and fruit orchard at Wilgus, in the Chiricahua mountains, and recently engaged in the livery and stage business at Pearce.
