Description: Mrs. Smith's funeral

Date: May 16 1902

Newspaper published in: Tucson

Source: library

At the big tent Tuesday afternoon, impressive funeral services were held over the remains of Mrs. Margaret Smith, wife of the evangelist, who died so suddenly Saturday night, says the Albuquerque Democrat. The Rev. J.W. Marsh offered a prayer. The Revs. T.C. Beattie, C.A. Bunker, Robert Renison, H.J. Powell and Mark Hodgson delivered short, impressive addresses, dwelling upon the lovely character of deceased and pointing the heart-broken husband and motherless children to the source of all good for comfort and consolation. Several hymns were tenderly sung by a choir. A large number of citizens expressed their sympathy by their presence and sorrowful attention to the addresses. A long line of carriages escorted the remains to the dark tomb in Fairview. Messrs. Beattie, Renison, Hodgson, March Powell and Bunker officiated as pallbearers.
