William La Force, who came to the Comstock in 1863, died in Gold Hill yesterday morning at about
9 o'clock, death being caused by inflammation of the bowels. He was a carman at the Gould &
Curry mine at the time of the big fire there which cost the lives of 11 men. He was very widely
known among old Comstockers and leaves many friends. He was a single man, but leaves nephew,
Joseph La Force in Los Angeles, and two brothers and a sister in the East. He was a member of
Silver Star Lodge of Gold Hill Masons and the Gold Hill Miners' Union. He was a native of Missouri
aged about 70 years.
