Bement, Ill., February 27.

A. R. NEWCOMB, who suddenly departed for unknown fields a week ago at the behest of "white caps," has left no trace of the route he took or his present whereabouts. Investigation reveals the fact that the so-called "white caps" were merely neighbors who knew only too well NEWCOMBS record and were able to point out his specific offenses, such as shamefully abusing his wife in a manner to cause him to flee in alarm. The people generally approve the clever ruse which freed the community of such a troublesome character.
