Carthage, September 3.

Three tramps broke into the Wabash Depot and tried to force Watchman CAYWOOD to open the safe. Upon his refusal they set upon him and beat him. Then they bound him with ropes and poured kerosene and grease down his throat. While the tramps were destroying everything about the place CAYWOOD got one hand loose and shot one of the tramps.
