Riddleberger Dead Ex-Senator From Virginia Passes Away From Earthly Scenes

Winchester, Virginia, January 24. Ex-Senator RIDDLEBERGER died at 2:30 o'clock this morning. Harrison H. RIDDLEBERGER was born in Edinburgh, Shenandoah County, Virginia, October 4, 1844; received a common school education and had a home preceptor for two years; served three years in the Confederate States Army as second and first lieutenant of infantry and as captain of cavalry; was a lawyer by profession; served as commonwealth's attorney of his country for two terms; also two terms of two years each in the house of delegates and one term of four years in the state senate. Since 1870 he has been editor of three newspapers, the Tenth Legion, the Shenandoah Democrat, and the Virginian; was a member of the state committee of the conservative party until 1875; was a presidential elector on the democratic ticket of 1876 and the same on the Readjuster ticket in 1880. In 1881, while commonwealth's attorney and state senator, he was elected to the United States Senate as a Readjuster in the place of John W. JOHNSON, conservative, and took his seat December 3, 1883. His term of service expired March 4 last.
