A St. Paul Lady's Thrilling Escape
While Mrs. Russell Durand was walking along one of the main streets of St. Paul she discovered her clothes to be on fire. Her progress had fanned the fire almost to a blaze, and the lower parts of her skirls and dress were being eaten away. She went immediately into a neighboring store, and calling for help her dress was plucked from her in part, and the smoldering lire was smothered. The clothes below the waist were completely destroyed, even her clocked stockings being singed. It is supposed that her clothes caught lire from a cigar stub which some careless smoker had tossed upon the sidewalk fully afire. In passing along the cigar stub was caught by the trail, and being brushed along, had time to get a hold upon her combustible and inflammable toilet.
