A Tankard Washington Used
W. E. Dwight, of Plainwell, Mich., has obtained an heirloom of which he is very proud. It is a tankard and bowl of earthenware plated with a bright but much worn substance. The articles were given his mother early in the sixties by a colored woman who obtained them from a New Haven (Conn.) tavern. It is authentically related that the vessels were part of the table furniture from which General Washington ate his dinner in June, 1775, while making the journey to Cambridge, Mass., to assume command of the American army.—Boston Transcript.
