Mr. & Mrs. WALKER of Sparta spent Thursday with Mr. & Mrs. L. A. WALKER

Among the number from Gorham who attended the Literary Contest here Saturday night were Professor and Mrs. EDDLEMAN and children, Prof. HUBBLE, Prof. PERRY, Mrs. E. SCHMIPF and daughter Hattie, Mr. & Mrs. P.A. HOGEMILLER and family, Thomas DUNN, Isabelle DUNN, Marie KONCE and Mazwell MORGAN. Gorham won the cup and Penant and a number of ribbons.

Mrs. Erskine CRAIG of Elkville was a visitor here Monday.

Mr. & Mrs. Murray BASTIEN were DuQuoin visitors Sunday.

Everett CROSIN and Miss Helen ALLARD employed as teachers in the grade school here for the coming year. Both are former graduates of V. C. H.S. and have taught in other localities.

Miss Margaret PERRY will teach at Simpson school again, this bring her third year. Had she not already been engaged at Simpson school she could have been employed as Critic teacher in Carbondale.

Among the old neighbors and relatives who attended the funeral of Mrs. Anna TUTHILL here Sunday afternoon were Messers W. C. PURDY and Thomas WRIGHT, Mr. & Mrs. R. E. WISELY and daughter Mabel of Murphysboro and Mrs. WISELEYs sister Mrs. Ella DOTY of Aurora.

J. B. WISELY is confined to his home suffering with a severe cold.

Mrs. L. A. WALKER is suffering an attack of sore throat.

J. C. CAMPBELL who has been ill for some time is not improving.

Misses Irene and Ruth SULLIVAN are employed as teachers in the Johnston City schools for the coming term. Miss Irene taught there last year. The young ladies are the daughters of Mr. & Mrs. M. A. SULLIVAN.

Mrs. Ella McNEAL is visiting friends and relatives in Carbondale.

Mr. & Mrs. W. F. SEYFERTH, Mr. & Mrs. George LITCHLITER, Mr. & Mrs. Lewis CRAWSHAW and daughter, Mrs. D. SMITH and little son visited Mr. & Mrs. Worley ATKINS in Collinsville and Mr. & Mrs. Fred GUESKE in St. Louis Sunday.

Rev. C. W. PADUCK, pastor of U.B. church conducted quarterly meeting at Mt. Zion church of Creek Paum Saturday night and Sunday.

The funeral of Mrs. Anna TUTHILL conducted by the pastor G. W. PADUCK of U.B. church, assited by Rev. J. L. RAGSDALE of M. E. Church was larged attended. Mrs. TUTHILL was one of this community.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles SEYFERTH and children and mother, Mrs. S. E. SEYFERTH, motored to OFallon Sunday to call on Mr. & Mrs. BAUCKMAN, the former being very ill. They also visited Mr. & Mrs. Fred GUESKE, Mr. SEYFERTHs aunt and sister-in-law of Mrs. S. E. SEYFERTH.
