San Jose. Nov. 10.Mrs. Joseph F. Columbet, daughter of
"Mountain Charley", pioneer owner
of most of the arable land in the
Santa Cruz mountains back of Los Gatos,
and wife of a former city treasurer of
San Jose died Saturday. The family has
made history in the Santa Clara Valley.
Mrs. Columbet is survived by an only
daughter, Anita, now a student at
Stanford University. She was born in 1864
and was educated at Notre Dame convent.
Pioneer Lady Passes Away
Mrs. Ramon Schilling, wife of the late
Lawrence Schilling," born in Monterey
and a resident of Santa Cruz since early
days passed away Monday morning at her
home on Berkshire Avenue, after a week's
illness. The deceased was well known as
a kind neighbor and a devoted mother.
Burial will be at the old family plot at
Valencia.
The deceased was 71 years of age and leaves
a family of 8, the following of whom
survive her: John Schilling, Mrs. Theresa
Gilleran of Santa Cruz, Lawrence Schilling
of Eureka, Mrs. E. E. Quinn of San
Francisco, Mrs. Larson of Valencia, Mrs.
J. Bailey of San Jose, Charles Schilling
of San Francisco.
