Graduation Exercises at the Colored Normal and High Schools
Secretary Fairchild and Commissioner Webb Award the Diplomas
More than 2,500 people were in attendance at the commencement exercises of the colored Normal and High Schools last night at the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church. Among the prominent personages seated on the stage with the graduates were Secretary and Mrs. Fairchild, Mr. and Mrs. Rose Fish, Superintendent Cook, ex-Trustee W. H. Smith, Miss Lucy E. Moten, principal of the school, and her assistants, Misses Carrie L. Wilder and Ada C. Hand, and W. H. Brooks.
The address to the graduates was delivered by Rev. Dr. T. G. Steward, former pastor of the Church, and Commissioner Webb, assisted by Secretary Fairchild who developed the diplomas to the following 89 graduates:

The exercises were interspersed with choice selections by the Marine Band under the directorship of Prof. Sousa.
The manner in which the exercises were regarded can best be stated by a remark made by Mrs. Secretary Fairchild at the conclusion when she said. "It has been a most interesting evening." Applause was bountifully bestowed upon the young graduates as each received the diploma of graduation.
