Browning, Mo., May 11.--Gus MEEKS, his wife and four children were found murdered near a straw stack in an open field last evening. The butchery took place two miles southeast of the town. MEEKS and his family were passing the home of George TAYLOR, who fired at them. MEEK was instantly killed. His wife and the children with one exception, a girl of 9 years, were killed with an axe. The girl was left for dead, all the bodies being hidden in a straw stack. The girl revived later and gave the alarm as well as the identity of the murderers. The officers are tracing the criminals and made a number of arrests. MEEKS had been pardoned recently by Governor STONE, that he might testify against William and George TAYLOR in a cattle stealing case, in which he was implicated and had confessed, throwing, however, the burden of the crime upon TAYLOR.Submitted: 04/11/07 (Edited 12/21/07)
