News and Notes from Port Deposit

Port Deposit, Feb 25. Rev. S. H. COOPER preached a very excellent sermon at the A. M. E. Church last Sunday morning. At the evening service Allen Day was celebrated with a very appropriate program conducted by Mr. William BROWN, the superintendent of the Sunday School. Rev. B. S. BROWN preached morning and evening at his church, and a sacred concert was also held in the same church, Mr. James JOHNSON, manager.

Miss Katie LEROY of Philadelphia visited Miss Emma LARUE this week.

Mrs. Annie M. JEWES died at her residence last Saturday, age 28 (28?), of an attack of pneumonia. She leaves a husband and three small children. She was a member of the church for many years.

Mr. Lonis (Louis?) BERRY, an aged member of Mt. Zura A. M. E. Church died last week aged 84 years. Several children survive him.

A party of young ladies gave a very pleasant social party at Bethel Hall last week, and among those present were the following: Misses Bell BODY, Lizzie ALLEN, Katie VANCE, Maggie HOPKINS, Clara ALLEN, and Messrs. William HOPKINS, Smith McLAIN, Daniel TAYLOR, Alfred BOYER and Edward HOPKINS.
