Frederick News

Presiding Elder YOUNG of the A. M. E. Church preached at Quinn A. M. E. Church last Sunday, and held his quarterly conference. Reports were in excellent condition. The people wish Elder MURRAY's return.

The Rev. TOWNS of the First Baptist Church is able to be about again and is taking up his church duties.

Rev. L. J. VALENTINE was to have been at Asbury M. E. Church last Sunday but failed to be present. Rev. PINKNEY preached.

The members of the Quinn A. M. E. Church last Sunday gave presiding elder YOUNG a reception on Tuesday night. Tuesday members of Asbury will give their pastor a reception next Monday night.

The new board of charities met last week and appointed Charity POSEY and Rev. N. G. GASSAWAY wardens for the colored wards in the Montview Hospital.

Mr. Allen SPRIGGS and Miss Rachel BEENER were quietly married last week by Rev. G. D. PINKNEY.

Miss Lily HENDERSON has returned from Washington where she has been spending some time.

The funeral of Mrs. Theresa HERBERT, who died at Montview Hospital Saturday was buried from her home in Hapland Monday.

Miss Lily MATTHEWS of New Market is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Catherine MURDOCH.

Mr. Lawson JONES, who died in Carlisle last week was brought to Frederick Friday morning and was buried with Masonic honors by Fredericktownian Lodge of A. F. and A. (sic) Masons. Mr. Jones was a member of Carlisle Lodge, No. 18. W.M. John A. JORDAN and Deputy Grand Master N. H. PINKNEY of Carlisle, conducted the services. The pallbearers were J. N. DAVIS, C. L. GOINGS, Anthony KING, M. E. JENKINS, Hiram KEY, and John PARKER.
