Description: Death of S.D. Noland
Date: December 26 1900
Last Friday evening about 7 o'clock Samuel D. NOLAND was seized with an attack of heqrt failurejust as he was entering his gate. Dr. BERRY was hastily summoned and everything possible was done to revive the patient. A momentary consciousness resulted, during which Mr. NOLAND asked to be placed in bes, but almost instantly thereafter he breathed his last.Mr. NOLAND'S death was a severe shock to our people. He appeared in excellent health and spirits up to the moment he was prostrated. In fact he was carrying a turkey home for the Christmas dinner, and was greatly pleased in anticipation of the arrival of his son Will and wife from Carson to spend the holidays. Death came to him without the faintest warning.
Mr. NOLAND was a pioneer of Hawthorne and had been employed for many years as chief blacksmith for C & C railroad company and was one of its most trusted employees. Besides a host of friends he leaves grief stricken widow, daughter and son to mourn his sudden death. The bereaved family have the most sincere sympathy of all in their affliction. He was an upright and honorable citizen, and indulgent father and devoted husband.
The funeral took place Sunday under the auspices of the Knoghts of Pythias, of which order deceased was an honorable member, the ladies of the Sunday school rendering appropriate music. Nearly the entire population followed the remains to the cemetery and as the last sad rites were being performed expressions of sorrow and sympathy were heard on all sides.
Deceased was a native of West Virginia aged 58 years.
The members of Mr. NOLANDS family desire to express their thanks to the many kind friends who assisted them in their hour of grief, and hope that in the time of trouble they may have as willing hands and loving hearts to lighten the burden.
