A Special to the Reno Gazette (8 Dec 1926) from Hawthorne says: J.H. MARTINS, a familuar figure around this part of the country for years, was found dead Sunday in Cory Canyon on the site of the town of Cory.
Sunday, November 28, MARTINS, or "Four EYES' as he was better known, left for his claim in North Canyon. As he was accustomed to going for several days at a time no one thought anythiong about his disappearence. However, on Wednesday, Sheriff BOERLIN went up to his camp and did not find him home. Tom LIMA, a prospector living near by, also went to MARTINS' camp but could not find him. When he did not come to town on Saturday, Fred WALLACE and Carl E. JOHNSON. the latter deputy sheriff, went out to look for him and found him dead near the creek.
His only living relative is a son, who is a real estate dealer in Florida. The funeral will be held Wednesday. MARTINS was about 70 years old.
