Two horseshoe-pitching teams had been organized among nurses of St. Joseph's Hospital as a recreational hobby. Twenty games would be played to decide a winner. On the Gold team were nurses Ruth Simpson, Louise Ulrich, Rose Westbrook and George Ripson. The Silver team included Elise Coleman, Marian Van Buskirk, Ruby Smith and Frank Faharty. The scorekeeper was Celeste Reif.
Boy Scouts of the Piasa Bird Council were gathering in Alton for the fourth annual "camporall" and field meet to be held in Riverside Park. O.C.K. Hutchinson was the chairman of the event.
