Huron, D. T., October 13.--Maj. John R. HOTALING of this city, died last night of heart disease. The body was sent to Rochelle, Ill., for interment, accompanied by the widow, son and brother of the deceased. Maj. HOTALING was highly respected. He was a famous soldier, having been Logan's chief of staff for a long time. On June 25, 1863 he led the "forlorn hope" into the crater at Vicksburg, being selected by LOGAN for that important service. After the war he was Postmaster at Rochelle for sixteen years.
