Jan 1, Income from cigarette taxes from the first six months of Nevada's new two cent per pack levy totalled $293,610.38.
Nevada's football team whipped North Texas State 13-6 in the Salad Bowl, the school's first Bowl Game, in Phoenix, AZ.
Review of the water situation showed Reno in 1947 was drier than the Sahara or the Gobi deserts.
Permits for building construction worth $2,942,067 were issued for 1947 in the county areas outside of Reno and Sparks.
The county clerks office said 26,993 marriage licenses were issued and 7208 divorce actions were filed in Reno in 1947.

Sgt. George CHANDLER of the Nevada State Police met with death whenhis car was struck by a bus in Reno.
