May 1, Harry DUNSEATH, long time Reno Justice of the Peace, died in Sacramento after a long illness.
May 4, M.A. "Tiny" FAIRCHILD resigned as a Republican state chairman.
The state board of pardons issued a parole to Bridget WATERS, Irish war bride convicted of slaying her husband in Las Vegas.
May 6, Laurence E. LAYMAN was appointed Justice of the Peace of Reno, succeeding the late Harry DUNSEATH.
Edward B. TAYLOR was named Mayor of Hawthorne in place of Thomas WHITWORTH, who resigned.
May 8, A.E. MacKENZIE of Lyon County was elected Republican state chairman and Noble GETCHELL and Oline STEWART were named national committeeman and committeewoman respectively at the bi-ennial GOP state convention in Reno.
Las Vegas won the state high school track and field championship.
May 12 The Truckee River water committee announced that its supplementary May 1 snow survey indicated a full water supply for Reno, Sparks and Truckee Meadoes, at least until Septembet 30th.
May 13, City officials and the American Legion discussed new plans to convert Reno Army Air Base buildings into temporary housing quarters in Reno.
With Walter S. BARING casting the lone dissenting vote the city council decided to place parking meters in downtown Reno.
Henry TENNISON received a one to five prison term for involuntary manslaughter in connection with a hit and run traffic death case.
May 17, Storey County commissioners ruled out any possibility of the opening of the restricted district in Virginia City, at least in the future.
May 19, A Spring rainstorm brought Reno the heavy storm it has seen in more than one year and snow fell in the Sierras.
May 20, Lester L. MOODY was fires as superintendent of state police by Governor Vail M. PITTMAN.
May 21, Rex JAMISON was elected president of the University of Nevada student body.
May 22, Mayor Francis R. SMITH says the city will seek from the 1949 legislature clarification of the welter of confusing statutes through which the Sierra Pacific Power Company derives its authority to distribute power in Reno.
Retirement of four University of Nevada professors; Elsa SAMMETH, Dr. J.R. YOUNG, R.C. THOMPSON and Dr. P.A. LEHENBAUER was announced to become effective at the end of the school year in June.
Governor Thomas E. DEWEY addressed a large gathering in Reno.
John BONNER was elected Democratic state chairman at the party convention in Elko.
May 25, Governor Vail PITTMAN called for action against illegal "roadside zoos" in Nevada.
Mayor J.H. GALLAGHER of Ely died suddenly.
May 29, Judge Roger FOLEY in federal court dissolved a temporary restraining order issued against the Reno Building and Trades Council.
Lake Tahoe gambling clubs were granted "probationary" licenses by the state tax commission.
