Description: Says He Has 42 Wives. Chicago Man Confesses to That Number Scattered Over the World.

Date: October 25 1899

Newspaper published in: New Haven, CT

Chicago, Oct. 25.--Forty-two wives scattered throughout the world, four of whom are in Chicago, was the confession made today by Walter L. FARNSWORTH, a Chicago candy commission man, who was arrested yesterday charged with bigamy. FARNSWORTH also admitted that he was a man of many aliases. Some of these are Charles BRADFORD, A. J. BITTIG, S. L. THOMAS, A. I. KIEFER and BRADSHAW.

"I cannot tell exactly how many women I have married," said he. "I know of 11 in Europe, 4 in China, 3 in Peru, 1 in England, and over 20 others in different parts of the world, but to save my soul I could not tell how many. I married them for different reasons. I did not live long with them. They will all tell you I was good to them."
