Anne Royall Issues The "Paul Pry"
The "Paul Pry" - The first number of a weekly paper under this title made its appearance at Washington on Saturday last. Its editor is no less a personage than Mrs. Anne ROYALL, the accomplished and celebrated author of the "Black Book." The amiable editor, or editress, stands aloof from the party feuds of the day - she is neither for Wirt, Clay nor Calhoun, no yet for Jackson. Like Penelope, she "weaves the bright tissue" of her wit, while the various candidates bow to her talents and covet her smiles, and ask her to be the arbitress of their political fate, by declaring her preference. But with that urbanity and ingenuity which have ever characterized the Madam Walter Scott of America, she evades their importunities, and like a political Dianna, flies from their overtures. "as for those canibals, the anti-masons, (says her ladyship) the cotemporaries of Negro-insurgents, we shall meet them on their own ground. I mean that of extirmination." The anties have at least a competitor - hitherto they have carried on a Quixottic warfare.
