Eldon R. McDonald, 77, of rural Barry died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Eldon was born Jan 16, 1930 to Robert and Daisy Wagner McDonald in Kinderhook. He married Hattie Wells Nov. 3, 1949 and she survives.
Eldon worked as a dynamite specialist in a rock quarry and then worked several years at and retired from Moorman's in Quincy. Eldon's loved ones will always remember him as the strength of the family. He was very active and hard working. He enjoyed bird watching, tinkering in his garage and carpentry, working with his hands.
He is also survived by three children, son, Harold (wife Sandy) of Quincy; daughter, Julie (husband Robert) Cawthon of Barry; and son, David McDonald of Barry; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (husband Jared) Haugh of Quincy, Bridget (husband Brad) Denton of Liberty, Christopher (wife Jeanne) of Sumter S.C. and Tanya (husband Kenneth) Showers of Knoxville Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Haley, Abby and Seth Haugh of Quincy, and Colin McDonald of Sumter; one step-great-grandchild, Andrew Little of Bussey; two step great-great grandchildren, Connor and Abbyagale Little of Bussey; one sister, Pearl McDaniel of Concord; and many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Tucker; one brother, Virgil McDonald; and one step great-granddaughter, Erica Showers-Little.
Cremation rites have been accorded per his wishes and no formal services will be held. The family met with friends at a visitation Sunday evening (Nov. 11) from 4 - 6 PM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry. Memorials may be left to the donor's choice.
