Cambridge, Md. Feb. 13, 1899:
William Algernon Percy, of Vienna, Dorchester County, in this State, is entitled to the dukedom of Northumberland, England.
Many years ago, George Percy, eldest son of the then Duke of Cumberland, came to America and was wed in Baltimore to a Miss Alaquith. American girls had not at that time acquired their present popularity with the noble families of the Old World and when the young man returned to England his family refused to recognize him. He returned to America where he spent the remainder of his life. He left two sons, Algernon Sidney Percy, father of William Algernon Percy of Vienna, and Richard Percy of Cambridge. Accordingly, William A Percy of Vienna, is the Duke, while our Cambridge Percy would have succeeded to the title which his father bore as second son of the Duke, which would have conferred an earldom upon him.
