Robert W. BABB of Hawthorne died in Washoe General Hospital Saturday morning, 3 Feb 1979. He was 56.
BABB was born in Fallon (Churchill County, NV) 24 Sep 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Nevada, having spent his school years in Tonopah (Nye County, NV). He served in the Navy in WWII in the South Pacific. After being discharged he worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne until his retirement in 1973.
BABB was a member of the VFW, Hawthorne, a past Grand Master of the Cooties, charter member of the Pony Express Riders Club of Nevada and rode in the Pony Express "rerun" in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Clara E. BABB of Hawthorne; parents, Vern and Irene BABB of Reno; sons, Leroy of Reno and James of Bay City, TX; step-daughters, Christine PARSONS and Linda R. CAHOON of Hawthorne; brothers, Richard of West Point, CA and Bill of Hawthorne; sisters, Caroline CHEATHAM of Sierra Vista, AZ and Mildred McCARTHY of Reno; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Hawthorne yesterday under the direction of Father Michael of the Episcopal Church, Hawthorne. BUrial will be in the family plot in Fallon.
