Man Taken to Gallinger After Swallowing Poison

A Christmas quarrel with her husband is believed to have led to the death yesterday of Mrs. Florence McCARTHY, 45 years old, of 4 Barnes lane southeast, according to police. The woman was found on the floor of a front room at the house. There was evidence that she had taken a strong poison, police said.

The body was discovered by a nephew, Charles PUSHEE, 20 years old, who made his home with Mrs. McCARTHY. The young man called the family physician, Dr. George EPPARD of 602 Minnesota Avenue northeast who said she had been dead for about an hour.

PUSHEE told police that his aunt and her husband, Joseph, had quarreled on Christmas Day and that McCARTHY had left home and his wife had not heard from him since. The had been despondent and woried, he said. An inquest will be held.

In another case, Harry WALCH, 35 years old, of 3335 Nichols Avenue southeast was taken to Gallinger for mental observation last night after police said he had swallowed a small quantity of poison at his home.
