ON TRIAL FOR ARSON.
Annie Jackson's Defence Is That She Is Mentally Unbalanced.
Annie JACKSON, alias Annie BARNES, colored, was put on trial today in Criminal Court, No. 1, on a charge of arson. She was represented by Mrs. Belva LOCKWOOD, while Assistant District Attorney TAYLOR appeared for the Government.
The defendant was charged with setting fire to premises 1427 Eleventh Street several months ago. As a defence it was claimed that the woman is unbalanced mentally and irresponsible for her action. It was also stated that she did not deny setting fire to the house when accused of doing so.
Several physicians called to testify on behalf of the defendant stated that the woman's mind is unbalanced.
The defendant was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
