Captain Harris's Wharf Struck by Lightning
On Sunday morning, about seven o'clock, a flash of lightning struck the southwest end of a building on Capt. HARRIS's wharf at Charlestown, Suffolk County, Mass. By the appearance of its effect, it first attacked the rails on the top of the house, then forcing a hole near the roof, entered the chamber, and burst off a large piece of board near the ridge pole; it then made its exit at the N.W. eave, opening it two or three inches, and passing down the side, split a large bolt which supported the corner of the house; then entering the ground threw out an iron wedge and some spikes which lay about nine inches near the post. In its course about the chamber it passed into a large stone jug, which it burst, and a musket contiguous to the jug had part of its brass guard melted.
