DONALD FREDRICK NIEMANN
Mr. Don Niemann, 91, of 304 Glendale Dr., died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday (May 10, 2008) in Blessing Hospital.
Born December 8, 1916 in Quincy, Don was the son of A. Steve and Jessie Bosse Niemann. On June 1, 1940 he married Dorothy Jean Brinkoetter in the St. James Evangelical Church in St. Louis, MO. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1990 at Fort Warden, Washington. She died April 30, 2000. He then married Judy Melton Koenig on June 30, 2001 in Quincy. She survives.
Don was a lifelong member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He graduated from Quincy High School and attended Gem City Business College. He was active with the Boy Scouts serving as Scout Master of the Madison School Troop for three years. He was a member and Past President of the Noon Kiwanis Club, Past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, 42 year member of the Spring Lake Country Club, 60 year member of the Quincy American Legion Post #37, UCT, Quincy Museum, the National Rifle Association, Farm Bureau and the Elks Lodge #100. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign from 1943 to 1946.

Don first managed Niemann Brothers Store at 17th and Broadway. After his return from the service, he was employed by his father and uncle at Niemann Brothers Wholesale at 123-125 N. 3rd for 35 years. During those years he was also vice president of Quincy Foods Inc. and a partner in the West Quincy Sales Company and the Mississippi Grill. He retired in 1970.

Also surviving are two sons, Dave Niemann and his wife Mary Lou of Quincy, and D. Tom Niemann and his wife Honey of Snohomish, WA; four grandchildren, Kelly Ann Hopson and her husband Robert of Juneau, AK, Scott Niemann and his wife Katie of Mt. Vernon, WA and Brett Niemann and Kevin Niemann both of Snohomish, WA three great grandchildren, Aidan Hopson of Juneau, AK and Charlotte and Abigail Niemann of Mt. Vernon, WA; two brothers, Steve Niemann and his wife Sue of Cape Girardeau, MO and Dale Niemann and his wife Janet of Clearwater, FL; several nieces and nephews; also surviving are two step daughters Daleann Stark of Louisville, KY and Susan Bollman of St. Louis, MO; a step son James Echternkamp and his wife of Kristy of Spokane, WA; a step daughter in law, Pamela Stark of Quincy; four step grandchildren, Amanda Sparks of Kirksville, MO, Alexandra Stark of Louisville, KY and Arica Echternkamp and Ronald Echternkamp both of Spokane, WA.

Mr. Niemann was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, two sisters, Bette Jackson and Berniece Greene, a step son David Stark and a brother in law Loy Greene.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Chaplin Steve Disseler. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.
